Time flies
How time fries. Deeply hotly and oily. It halfway through June. Two more weeks to July. My list of to DOs are still not clearing up. Oh my.
Last weekend marks the end of ever-crowded quarterly IT exhibition. What's the point of going when you have nothing to buy in mind, or buy something that you don't need it but the price are just too irresistable? Anyway, my broadband was due for recontract and i was too lazy to get out of the house. So i was browsing for the options online..
My current 6Mbps SingNet broadband cost $66/mth! Even with the free Acer laptop they are giving away during the PC show, it would only cost $49.90/mth for the same speed. It's a savings of $16.10 every month. Why not!
Then, i saw this MIO Home plan (Broadband + Home tel + MIO TV) @ $46.90!! After consulting my mom whether she wants to watch MIO TV, i kinda ditch the MIO Home plan. It's too expensive. The price is before $19.90 for every TV package. Otherwise, MIO TV is quite useless without channels. It's a good idea to bundle all 3 services into 1 plan. But MIO TV is still too costly at this time. So i got an idea. Cancel our residential line and just have the broadband. =)
Then my mom suddenly became an IT sexpert (previously IT idiot). She freaked me out when she said this to me, "Son, your broadband runs on our home telephone. So if you cancel our home line, your internet will be gone too."

CSO: Mr Sim, i understand you wish to cancel your residential line?
Me: Err.. actually i just want to enquire if our broadband needs the telephone service to run. Can i keep the line but cancel the telephony service so that i can still use the broadband? The phone is rarely used and the subscription fee is a pain in the ****
CSO: Mr Sim, i understand you have been with us for many many years. Why not i offer you a $10 monthly cash rebate into your account, which you can roll over if not utilised. It is our way of retaining customers like you and showing our sincerity. No strings attached. I'll start the rebate for you with effect from next month. This way, you can continue to use the telephone services without worrying about the cost.
Me: Ohh... (trying to stay calm) Yea, that would be great! Thanks!!
CSO: Well, your broadband is also eligible for recontract. Do you have any considerations in mind?
Me: Sort of. My current subscription rate is too expensive compared to the ones on promotion right now.
CSO: Mr Sim, as one of our existing customer, may i offer you a 10Mpbs plan at only $23.45/mth, with 1 year of contract instead of 2. This offer is only available through our department.
Me: That sounds great. (I don't wanna sound too hasty or cheapo at this moment) Hmm.. may i take some time to consider before i take it up? How can i get back to you?
CSO: I'm XXXXX from Customer Solutions Department. You may call me back anytime. I'll be glad to hear from you again.
So my call ended up in the disguised Customer "Retention" Department. 10Mpbs at $23.45/mth is way too ***insert your own words here*** It is even cheaper than the 3Mbps plan!! Holy shit. Just a call to prove if i was right and i got a chain of offers! I didn't take up the broadband offer immediately as i want to test if he can give me a better deal. By hesistating, i give the impression that i may not take it up. Nonetheless, the offer is just too great to resist.
I'm lovin Singtel. Thumbs up thumbs up! Oh yar, i'm not providing you his number just in case you all flood him wanting the same privileges. Hehehe. I'm evil. I know.
Ok, it's getting late. I'll leave you guys with this video below. All hails to Microsoft!
